Components of 4WDS

The main components of the Four by Four vehicles are the two differentials, one in the front and other on the rear axle and a transfer case. Part time 4x4 systems have locking hubs in addition to these components. Both types of 4x4s have advanced electronics which help manage the systems with better traction handling.

Differentials : There are two differentials, one is the front differential and the other is the rear differential. The main function of the differentials is to transfer engine torque from the drive shaft to drive wheels.

Transfer Case : This component is responsible for spliting the power between rear and the front axles in 4x4 systems. The transfer case in a part time 4WD systems locks the rear axle to the front axel drive shaft so that both move at the same speed when four wheel drive is required.
